Wellington Primary School
Wellington Primary School approached Beeston Jones to design and create a series of outdoor musical instruments, but they also wanted to ‘..break the mould and give the pupils, staff and wider community the chance to experience music and performance on a different level in a different setting.’ Our response was to organise a series of workshops with pupils and staff that utilised old and found objects to construct instruments and noise-making devices. Over the course of four days intensive on-site work that involved the whole school, we created a group of unusual instruments (including chimes, drums, random percussion and a scale of pipes played with a bat!). Music can be played either by individuals or large groups. To complete the project, we also created a story-telling chair, stage and seating for up to 30 people to enjoy this unusual and magical musical playground.
